I got assaulted :) (no, seriously, i was assaulted)
Hey kids, gather round. Ben has a story for you tonite. Following my shift at WXYC (12-3 Sunday Nights/Monday Mornings) and it was a damn good set if i might say so. I was heading back towards Morrison and i was at the point in the brick walkway past the SRC where it meets with Stadium Drive. Two very sketch thugged out African American males approached me and asked for directions to 15-501. As I was giving directions and trying to keep my distance, one of them walked around to the other side of me and in the middle of directions took a swing at me and hit me on my left cheek, it's bruised now. I started backing away fast yelling "What the fuck!? What the fuck!? Easy!" and they started to give chase. At which point, I was running across the road where i tripped on my sandal and scraped the everliving fuck out of my knees. I pulled off both sandals and sprinted back to Morisson as fast as i could. When i got there and inside the dorm, I called the cops and alerted them and let them know everything that happened. They've sent cars out as of 3:30 or so and i gave descriptions of the guys. So you know, they were two thugged out black guys, anywhere from 5'8 to 6'2. The shorter one was wearing a black puffy coat and was heavier set, maybe up to 210 lbs for his body type. The other was a little skinnier had a black ballcap on and an oversized black t-shirt. Be on the lookout, because i don't want this happening to anyone else. I'm okay but the bottom line is i got lucky. So be careful out there and take care of yourselves.

    Love,
    Ben

Man, sometimes, i just don't get this shit. It's like the whole world is crumbling down around me. It's like, everything is going wrong and i can't stop it. I don't know what to do anymore. This girl i like is totally straightedge and that means i can't smoke anymore but that's cool, because i have X's on my shoes anyways. I made some new rips in my jeans that were kickin rad. But that was the highlight of my day. Otherwise, my life is utter shit. I worry about things all the time and i don't know what to do. It's like, i'm an emo kid, in a mosh pit, and the punkers are tearing me apart, that is my life. So last nite i went and saw Scarlett's Horizon and Ashes of September's Fall, and Darling's Blood. I danced like never before, a complete emotional catharsis, who needs therapy when you have emo-violence :).

How On Earth Does He Do It!?
Okay, here are my Top 50 records of 2004 as of now. The top 10 are pretty much set in stone, unless something absolutely AMAZING comes by in the next two months. The rest are subject to change at any time. Should I realize a certain album came out in 2004, or should i realize i forgot something. But overall, this is pretty definitive. I only put full albums on this list, EP's did not qualify. Also, before someone asks why Brian Wilson's "Smile" isn't on this list, i'll tell you. Because the album was originally written and songs appeared on different albums at least 36 years ago, I don't qualify it as a 2004 release, despite that the actual proper 'release' just now happened. Also, compilations are ineligible for the list.

Bitches ain't shit but mouths to feed
Damn kids, sure has been a while since yer old pal Ben has gone and done an entry. But you know what? I refuse to offer you a recap of the past....3 or whatever how long it's been weeks in which i have been absent. However, a quick recap of the past few days seems rather lovely don't it?

Well then, this weekend was fun, despite that i havne't had alcohol properly present in my system in well over several weeks. It's cool, i'll deal. This follows no chronological order whatsoever, soyaknow.

I saw the Dresden Dolls w/Bellafea on Friday nite. And i have to admit, I was more than plesantly surprised. It was a damn fine show. Granted, Kaia and Allison's ballads were unabashedly cliche. I mean, c'mon, her country song, mentioned a truck. If you're gonna write a country song, you have to be ironic and have the theme involve metropolitan city issues. pssh. Country songs about taxis...now THERE's an angle. But yeah, damn good show. All the gothlings and minions of the night came out of the woodwork in their corsettes and black vinyl jackets, and overdone make-up and penchants for paganism. Kept me smiling all through they did.

Saturday i slept till 1:30 at which point Grace was lovely enough to wake me up. The adventure that followed entailed me going to Caribou. Then going to Time After Time, where i blew 51.33 on a red leather jacket, cowboy boots, and two shirts. My bank account has 22 dollars. good times. :)

After that we went by Skylite Exchange which i'm sure is much more hip during the evening hours but either way it's cool. I just need to figure out if i can smoke there. The sign was rather ambiguous on the concept.

After that Dad was up with the little bro doing shoe-shopping so we all went to Mellow Mushroom and had some pizza. They gave me a care package with coffee, homemade oatmeal cookies, and pumpkin bread, bitches say what?

Then i went and hung out with Katie and saw I <3 Huckabees, which was pretty good. Kinda sad that Marky Mark was the character that really made the movie though. But hey, he's hung like a zoo-animal so i'm not complaining.

I love Katie and she's just fucking great and i chilled with her the whole evening.

Then we went with my boy Will Walters and some newfound pals to stonehenge and smoked up. It was fucking tight as hell. I nearly broke through with salvia but not quite, but good times were had by all.

Today i finished a review for the new Elliott Smith album and got Wild Zero from Pip. I also impaled a pumpkin with a golf club. Bitch was steppin.

And now i'm studying for my stupid bio-exam, which hopefully i can pass. With any luck at all. So i'm wrapping this up and i'll see you kids at the same bat-time, same bat-place.

OH ME OH MY WE'RE INDECISIVE TODAY AIN'T WE?!
Wow, what a fucken bizarro day. You freak out on one of your best friends for something stupid, nearly have a nervous breakdown, and the entire world is crashing down around you, you apologize, feel like shit, and then feel great out of nowhere. just like that things are righted and all is well with the cosmos. I declare, a little hiphop, spit shines, sick rhymes and elbow grease.

I also think it'd be really cool if i found a tribal culture where they used skulls as codpieces. That'd be baaaadaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasss.

So yeah, been a while so let's do it proper. If i could post funny pictures i could but i can't so i won't. last thursday Katie came to the station with me from 3-6 in the morning 0_0. Say it with me, one "downright dedicated devoted dame". Of course, we both ended up falling asleep all the time but she came and that's what matters.

and then the next day *GASP!* things almost ended, but they DIDN'T and they're better than before. Oh she's so great. We partied and cuddled the night away.

She is the perfect companion and my best friend and I can't tell you how effing awesome she is. But let's put it this way. Katie is wicked awesome. So awesome that in fact if you were to try to put it in a scale, i'd say it's about like...infinity squared. I'm gushing but she deserves it and i want to make you sick with telling you about how great she is and how great she is to me.

Saturday was so much fun. We beat state w00t!

Finally got to party with the applexcore kids again, it'd been way too long since i'd seen my extended family. Met Natalya's pimp-ass friend Dash, listened to records with him and then tucked homeboy in :)

So yeah, i think taht covers things and i'm going to get back to making my powerpoint presentation because i'm going ADD like whoah.

    Well, that was interesting
Let's start things off properly, quizzes suck. I happen to find them stupid, pointless, and asinine and just a complete waste of time.

    Aaaaaaaanyways.

Last nite i got particularly wasted and managed to annoy my girlfriend and best friend. Peer pressure is a bitch. On a positive note i met some great people and got to catch up. Then later that nite, i called natalya and like...half two and was all emotion, that was fun.

I met katie's parents for the first time, that was interesting, i'd like to think it went rather well even though i was scared shitless of what they were going to think of me.

And after i got drunk and managed to stumble my way back to the dorm i went to bed and i had to get up at 8 for my Daily Tarheel orientation at 9. Fun times. But in all honesty i can't wait to start work, everyone is so cool, Art and Entertainment is far and away the coolest desk. ::le sigh::

Well, i'm gonna wrap it up because i'm starting to feel lame for doing this.

edit: what you read above is not necessarily entirely in chronological order, to set this straight here's the order of events, with times.

7:00 Dinner with Katie's family and Holly
    9:00 Went to KDUB'S
    11:00 Called Katie
    12:00 Katie and Holly arrive
    1:30 Katie and Holly Leave
    2:30 I leave
    3:00 I go to bed
    8:00 I wake up
    9:00 DTH orientation
    12:30 Orientation ends
    1:00 chilling with holly,

Was that as good for you as it was for me?
Well kiddos, last nite was my second dj session and i loved every fucking minute of it. Katie and Holly both stayed up and listened to it so i'm assured at least two listeners =). But you know what they say "If you can reach at least one person...". Katie called me again during my set because she's the greatest girlfriend i could ever ask for and more, and holly im'd around 5ish and talked to me on AImBut yeah, it was a great set for those of you who missed out, the last hour of it was ridiculously good and i was really getting into it. Of course, after i left i wanted to die but i settled for passing out on my loft.

For those of you that missed it, this was my final superawesome set a la the last 45 or so minutes of my show:

    talkset
Chemical Brothers - Where Do I Begin?
Beta Band - Dry the Rain
Eagles of Death Metal - So Easy
Keren Ann - I'm Not Going Anywhere
Court and Spark - Sundower, You

I shall update my journal twice in less than 24 hours. I knew it was a bad idea to start this. But since i have absolutely nothing better to do, i'm going to do a list of every band i've ever seen in concert. Just because i'm an asshole and i want to make you jealous. This list in no particular order. And i'm leaving out the 2 times i went to warped tour because A) i'm embarassed and i'd rather not admit to it, and B) i don't count that becaues it's like..60 bands per fest.

    Green Day
    Mogwai
    The Faint
    Schneider TM
    Pretty Girls Make Graves
    Les Savy Fav (2x)
    Alkaline Trio

This is going to become an addiction
Well, i guess this means that i'm updating again. Last nite i went and say Franz Ferdinand w/ The Futureheads and the Delays. Accompanying me was my darling girlfriend, the oh so lovely and wonderful Katie O'Neil, Holly, and fellow XYC dj Kevin Clark. The Delays were fucking terrible and reminded me of a band that was created by some record executive, like a really shitty poppy version of Muse, who isn't that great to begin with.

However, The Futureheads were fucking great and i can't get enough of them, it was a shame that they went on first and that there weren't many people there to enjoy them. They have a great post-punk sound and i think they'll end up going places. Damn good set.

However, Franz Ferdinand was just great. I was skeptical to their live show as i had constantly heard bad press on them but it was still a great show. Good set, played everything i wanted to hear and more. And with that i'm going to right this paper on Citizen Kane that was due two days ago.

Okay, fine, you know what? I'm going to actually update this thing myself. Today i woke up at 1:30 in the morning so i could be at the station by 2:00. Oh, you didn't get the news? Well yeah, i'm a dj for WXYC and my shift is 3-6 am on Thursdays. You can listen in at www.wxyc.org/live.ram Anyways, i'm hella tired but it was a great shift and i really enjoyed myself. Also, Katie called me during my shift and she listened to the whole thing because she's so fucking awesome :)
